"Between Men and Women, There Is a Camera" is a photobook by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. Influenced by his father, a geta (wooden clogs) maker and amateur photographer, he began photography. After graduating from the Department of Photographic Printing Engineering at Chiba University's Faculty of Engineering, he joined Dentsu. While working there, he took advertising photos and explored new photographic art using the company's equipment. From the 1970s onward, he published sensational works that are still talked about today, such as "Oh Japan" and "Sentimental Journey." His outstanding, sometimes radical nudes and heartwarming snapshots have captivated photography fans around the world, and he is a great photographer who has published 400 photobooks to date. This book is a collection of his works published in 1978, and it introduces all of his work up to that point as well as his theories on photography. It can be enjoyed both visually and textually, including texts introduced at the Workshop Photography School, a dialogue with Hiroyuki Itsuki, and a compelling collection of dialogues between Masakazu Komatsu and Yoko. This is an excellent book to learn about Nobuyoshi Araki's early career. Cover photograph, book design, and layout by Akira Suei. First edition, fourth printing.
