"Nicaragua: June 1978–July 1979" is a representative work by American female photographer Susan Meiselas (1948–). Known as a member of Magnum Photos, Meiselas is a documentary photographer who has deeply immersed herself in the social and political scenes, documenting the lives of people. This work is a record of the Nicaraguan Revolution, photographed from 1978 to 1979, and is a collection of works that traces the events chronologically, from the tense atmosphere at the end of the dictatorship to the spread of the citizen resistance movement and the victory of the Sandinista Revolution. The photographs, which vividly capture the battlefields, the crowds in the streets, and the people living in the midst of the revolution, are not only a record of political events but also convey the memories of individuals who lived through a turning point in history. First published in 1981, this book is a long-reviewed and important work in the history of photography. The 2016 edition was reissued in conjunction with a video work in which Meicellas himself revisits the memories of the revolution through augmented reality (AR) functionality. It is a book that demonstrates the power and enduring nature of documentary photography, including the question of how records of revolution are remembered and continue to be reinterpreted.
