This is a photobook by Latin American photographer Paolo Gasparini. Born in Italy and based in Venezuela, Gasparini is a rare photographer who has continued to photograph the realities of Central and South America, including Venezuela, Mexico, and Cuba, primarily since the 1960s, with a journalistic perspective and an outstanding artistic viewpoint. He is a master of South American photography, having published numerous masterpiece photobooks, including "Para Verte Mejor, Americana Latina" (1972) and "Retromundo" (1986). This book, published in 2014 in a limited edition of 250 copies, is a compilation of images of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, taken by Gasparini over 60 years from 1954 to 2014, edited without regard to chronological order. The title "Karakarakas" is a neologism, a play on "Cara (Dear) Caracas," reflecting Gasparini's love for Caracas. As Gasparini, who has an extraordinary dedication to photobooks, said, "A photobook is not merely a collection of illustrations; it only gains meaning when the imagery, photography, graphics, and text are all perfectly designed," this book is a work of uncompromising quality, even in its binding. Edition numbered (No. 129/250).
