"Underground" is a photobook by British photographer Bob Matzer. This book is composed of illustrations taken in the British Underground during the 1970s and 80s. "Subways" are a condensed "something" that fascinates photographers, and famous examples include American master Walker Evans' "Many are called," Helen Levitt's "Manhattan Transit" (published more recently by Evans' student), and Magnum Photos legend Bruce Davidson's "Subway" and Willy Spiller's "Subway New York." Matzer worked as a projectionist for pornographic films at the time and used the subway for his commute, but one day he noticed the human dramas condensed on the platforms and inside the trains, and began taking photographs as a hobby. The social conditions, fashion, culture, and various human dramas such as love, friendship, joy, and sorrow are brilliantly depicted. An unknown masterpiece by a projectionist who loved people and continued to seek social interaction.
