Tessa Boffin (1957–1993) is a collection of British photographer Tessa Boffin's (1957–1993) works. Active in the midst of the AIDS crisis and feminist movement of the 1980s, Boffin boldly reinterpreted historical paintings and religious symbols, pioneering a unique style that utilized costumes and theatricality to visualize queer bodies and female desire. Due to her early death, her work had long been underappreciated, but Sunil Gupta has painstakingly excavated her scattered archives to systematically compile her masterpieces in this volume. For the first time, themes such as lesbian desire, the adaptation of mythical bodies, and the reversal of taboos and power structures are clearly outlined in a single volume. Gupta's careful editing vividly brings to life Boffin's visual language, which sheds light on the "unrepresented body" throughout history.
