Gertrud is a collection of works by Swedish photographer Marja Daniels (1985-). Daniels specializes in poetic expressions that weave landscapes and ritual motifs into her work, focusing on the intersection of history and memory, myth and the modern. Inspired by her grandmother's legend of Gertrud Svensdotter from Alvdalen, Sweden, she reconstructs the history of the witch trials that arose in 1667 after she was accused of "walking on water" with a contemporary sensibility. Combining ritual scenes, talismanic objects, and figurative portrayals of characters photographed in forest spaces with 18th- and 19th-century local photographic archives (sources of Tenn Lars Persson), the work unravels the linearity of time and place.
