"Los Angeles x Shinjuku" is a collaborative photobook by US-based photographer Avo Tavitian and leading figure in Japanese photography, Daido Moriyama. Lebanese-born Tavitian has been capturing the city of Los Angeles on 35mm film for over 30 years, sharply capturing the urban atmosphere and people living there through a distinctive grain and shadow. Meanwhile, Daido Moriyama has been a driving force in the innovation of photographic expression, capturing the chaos and loneliness of the city through monochrome snapshots, primarily of Shinjuku, since the 1960s. In this book, the two photographers' perspectives intersect, creating a composition that resonates with the landscapes of the two cities, Los Angeles and Shinjuku, and attempts to reconsider the relationship between cities and people beyond borders and cultures. This ambitious work captures the contrasting pulse of these cities with the texture of film, showcasing the current state of urban photography.
