Tall Socks is a collection of works by American photographer Mark Cohen (1943-). Based in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Cohen is known for his street photography, where he gets extremely close to his subjects. He has consistently explored a unique perspective that captures urban everyday life in fragments. His close-range flash photography and bold cropping of the frame transcend the boundaries of portraiture and documentation, sharply highlighting the tensions and unconscious gestures hidden in the city. As symbolized by the title "Tall Socks," this book focuses on details such as people's legs, the edges of their clothing, and the movements of their hands, rhythmically capturing fragments of bodies walking through the city. The rough atmosphere created by the closeness of gazes, and the unintentional moment of revealing facial expressions, open up multiple interpretations, reaffirming the allure of the "too close" streetscape that Cohen has long pursued.
