"Nanto Ryo 1969-71" is a photo collection by Hirashiki Kenshichi, one of Okinawa's leading photographers of postwar times. In addition to a special feature on NHK's Sunday Art Museum, Hirashiki Kenshichi has been receiving renewed recognition in recent years, thanks to the enthusiastic promotion of his work by his family and close associates. His posthumous collection of works, "Goat's Lungs - Okinawa 1968-2005," published in 2007, has already been reprinted, and in 2016, Miraisha, the publisher of the "Okinawa Photographer Series," released "My Dad is a Photographer / Hirashiki Kenshichi Posthumous Collection," further garnering increasing attention. Since the 1980s, Hirashiki has published the fanzine "Bikaze" with fellow Okinawan photographer Mao Ishikawa and self-published numerous collections, albeit in small runs. This book is a collection of works published in the 1990s, composed of images taken during his time in Tokyo in the late 1990s, when he moved to study photography and lived in a dormitory for Okinawan students. It is the same format as the early "Bikaze" and is a blueprint, handmade original. An exhibition of the same name was held in 2015.
