"Night Light" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Shintaro Sato (1969-). After graduating from the School of Science and Engineering at Waseda University, he developed an interest in urban planning and turned to photography. Known for his style of depicting urban landscapes not simply through documentation but through poetic elements such as time, memory, light, and shadow, Sato captures contemporary cities from a unique perspective. This book features representative works of nightscapes, primarily in Tokyo and Osaka, taken between 1997 and 1999. The photographer captures deserted street corners, buildings, and the glow of streetlights at intersections, sometimes in black and white and sometimes in color. Light transcends its original purpose, illuminating memories and blank spaces hidden within the city, stirring the viewer's emotions. This work explores the tranquility that is the polar opposite of bustle, and the presence of light itself, creating a poetic visual expression that expands the possibilities of urban photography.
