Cinque viaggi (1990–98) is a collection of works by Italian photographer Guido Guidi (1941–). Known for his serene gaze on architectural and urban transformation, Guidi explored the possibilities of color photography, imbuing postwar Italian landscapes with a unique poetic quality. His camera focuses less on glamorous subjects than on the periphery: suburban roads, ruins, and unassuming building exteriors, meticulously capturing the time and human activities imprinted on these places. This book documents five trips to Milan and its surrounding areas between 1990 and 1998, shifting his focus from the city center to the suburbs, capturing social change and fragments of everyday life in his photographs. The 110 illustrations, including unpublished works, reexamine the richness of the "ordinary landscapes" that emerged as Italy underwent modernization and deindustrialization, vividly demonstrating the dual nature of photography as both a documentary and a poetic imagination.
