"Japan, 1951–1960" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Kikuji Kawada (1933-). Kikuji Kawada is a member of the photography group "VIVO," which also included Shomei Tomatsu, and is known as an important figure in postwar Japanese photography. This book is a standalone book published in 2014 by Nazraeli Press in the United States as Vol. 3 of a limited edition set of six books called "Six by Six." It contains 25 black-and-white photographs taken in various parts of Japan between 1951 and 1960. It features streets, landscapes, and fragments of everyday life that are strongly colored by the postwar chaos and rebirth, creating a visual document that evokes the atmosphere of the era and quiet prayer. Kawada has explored the possibilities of "photography as a storage device" in works such as "Map" (1965) and "The Last Cosmology" (1995), and this book is an original attempt that leads to the starting point of that exploration. Signed by the photographer .
