"Nail (With OBI)" is a photo collection by one of Japan's leading female photographers. In a complete departure from her early style of Yokosuka, Ishiuchi Miyako has been working on "close-ups of the body" since the 1990s, and in recent years has been deepening her own expression by using "objects" such as the belongings of Frida Kahlo and atomic bomb victims. The turning point was the photo collection "1 9 4 7," which featured the hands and feet of a woman born in 1947, the same year as Ishiuchi. After that, she focused on the body, which is different for each person and which is imprinted with time and memory, such as photo collections featuring poet Hiromi Ito and dancer Kazuo Ohno, and "Scars," which features only scars remaining on the body. This book is also a photo collection of only hands, feet, and nails, and unlike "1 9 4 7," the subjects are all men of different ages, occupations, and nationalities. "The vague vessel that is the body is wrapped in the garment of time as it transforms day by day. The tips separated from the body stand up and become independent fingers, toes, and nails. The square frame becomes the entrance for them to face the outside world." (From Ishiuchi Miyako's "Aging Nails" in this book). With obi.
