"M (Signed)" is a collection of works by Misha Pedan (1957-), a photographer from Kharkiv, Ukraine. He started working as a photographer in the 1980s and moved to Stockholm, Sweden in 1990. He has been teaching at the art school "Kulturama" for nearly 15 years, while also curating photography and exhibitions. This is one of Misha's representative works, taken in the mid-1980s, a series of "subway passengers." There are many different people, and everyone has different thoughts and sees different scenery. It must be an intriguing environment for a photographer. Nobuyoshi Araki also took similar photos on his commute when he was working as an office worker in the early 1960s, and tried to publish his work in the early 1970s, but he found out that Walker Evans had actually published a similar series titled "Many are Called" before the war, and he stopped publishing it, perhaps out of embarrassment for being a second-line tree (later published in "Subway Love"). So, I have seen many photos of train passengers in the US and Japan, but the Russian series is a different kind of novelty. Limited to 1000 copies.
