"Kito (Signed)" is a photo book by Japanese female photographer Masako Tomiya. Born in Aomori Prefecture in 1981, Masako Tomiya studied at the Department of Photography at Osaka University of Arts under the tutelage of leading Japanese photographer Issei Suda, who taught at the same university. She then studied at the Graduate School of Tokyo College of Photography, and held solo exhibitions at the now-closed Zeit Photo Salon from 2010 onwards. In 2013, she released her first book, "Tsugaru". This is her second photo book, published in 2017, and is a collection of works created with the motif of the photographer's hometown of Aomori and her family (mother and sisters) who live there. The text reads, "I have lived my life thinking about what I am, what this world is, and such things. (Omitted) This is a story that looks at 'me', transcending time, meaning, and myself." While the subject matter is "countryside," "nature," "hometown," and "family," which are common in Japanese photobooks, the book exquisitely combines various elements, including the softness, the "strange" atmosphere inherited from Suda Issei, the storytelling, and even the book design, to create an intriguing human document. Signed by the photographer .
