"New York to Nova Scotia (Softcover)" is a collection of works by Robert Frank, a leading American photographer. Born in Switzerland in 1924, Frank immigrated to the United States at the age of 23. He was discovered by Alexey Brodovitch, a legendary postwar art director and Richard Avedon's mentor, and was active at Harper's Bazaar, but after the 1950s he left fashion and became a freelance journalist. He then traveled to England, France, and other parts of Europe to cover the country, and then, relying on his own sensibility, image, and scholarship, he traveled across the United States, documenting the unknown underbelly of American society with his book "The Americans," which established his name as a photographer. This book is a collection of works published at the time of his solo exhibition held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 1986 and later touring the United States. Rather than being primarily illustrations, the book is packed with film stills, portraits of Frank, and texts by Jack Kerouac, Jonas Mekas, Walker Evans, and others. It was reprinted by Steidl in 2006. Softcover edition.
