This is a photobook by French photographer Marc Garanger. Garanger is a photojournalist who has been active since the 1960s. In the 1960s, he published a report on the funeral of Italian Communist Party leader Palmiro Togliatti together with the renowned French novelist Roger Vaillant, and from the 1970s onward, he continued to cover war and poverty in Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union, Cambodia, and other places. Garanger's most representative work is "Portraits of Algerian Women," which is included in this book. The Algerian War of Independence lasted from 1954 to 1962 against French rule. As a journalist, Garanger accompanied the army and was responsible for photographing local women who were required to carry French ID cards at the time. Following the style of Edward Curtis's portrait photography of Native Americans, he pressed the shutter with respect and dignity for the people. It is a masterpiece of portraiture that delicately depicts the complex emotions of women who could not hide their anger and resistance. Although it was reprinted in 2002, this book is the first edition published by Cotrejour in 1982. With a respectful signature .
