A photo collection by Hosoe Eikoh, one of Japan's leading photographers, "Ordeal by Roses II (Signed)". Since its first publication in 1963, the design has changed, but it has been reprinted many times, making it one of the masterpieces in the history of photography. This is a poetic photo collection of eroticism and fantasy that made the subject, Mishima Yukio, call it "photography magic". The images of the body as an object, captured using a wide variety of stage sets and experimental expressions, brought change and new ground to Japanese photography, which had previously had a strong journalistic element, and even to photography around the world. The cover design of the first edition published in 1963 was by Sugiura Kohei, the one published in 1971 by Yokoo Tadanori, and this edition published in 1984 by Awazu Kiyoshi. The English version published by Aperture, a publisher specializing in photo books in the United States, also follows the design of this book.
