Laments Skyscapes/From Close-range (With OBI) is a collection of works by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. It was published the year after his beloved wife Yoko flew off to heaven. It is a set of two books, one of which is "monochrome" still life and landscapes taken on the balcony of his home, and the other is "painting" on monochrome landscapes. For those of us who know Araki today, this is a "natural" style, so to speak, but it was a style that was unthinkable when Yoko was alive, and it is like the beginning of Nobuyoshi Araki's second chapter (his middle period as a photographer). The depictions, which seem to spell out empty feelings, strongly reflect Araki's view of life and death, and beautifully express complex emotions (there is also a theory that this color painting may have started under the influence of Fukase's Hibi...). Contains the poem "Ema in the Sky" by Gozo Yoshimasu, the text "The Healing Garden" by Kotaro Iizawa, and a detailed "Chronology of Nobuyoshi Araki" by Satoshi Yakaku. Written in both English and Japanese. Comes with a dust jacket.
