"Katsura Imperial Villa / The Katsura Place" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Kanichiro Shimada. Born in Tokyo in 1904, Shimada was active mainly as an amateur, including as a member of the photography department of the Kokugakai Association, but the details of his career as a photographer are unclear. On the other hand, Shimada was known for being a camera buddy of the founder of camera manufacturer Mamiya Optical Co., Ltd., and for developing the "Auto Up" when he joined the company as the head of the inspection department. This book was created with the motif of "Katsura Imperial Villa", the quintessence of Japanese architecture and garden culture, published in 1959. The photo collection of Katsura Imperial Villa that comes to mind is "Katsura / Katsura" by Yasuhiro Ishimoto, one of Japan's leading photographers. Although the style is different from Ishimoto's Katsura, which is cut from a cold and design-oriented perspective, Shimada's works contain various things in a multi-layered manner, and are also striking in their composition and beauty of form. This book also has a wonderful design and layout by Hiroshi Hara, a graphic designer who was active before and after the war. Shipping box included. Comes with a separate booklet (including photo index, photo notes, floor plan, and English text).
