Nobuyoshi Araki is one of Japan's leading photographers. This book, "Faces," is the first of a 20-volume collection of Nobuyoshi Araki photographs published by Heibonsha. It contains over 350 "faces" spanning 30 years, from his unknown early works in the 1960s when he worked at Dentsu to color portraits of famous people. "In the 1960s, I thought that 'faces' were the photograph. Since we've been exposed to the world since we were born, everything about a person is revealed. All I do is copy them" (from "Araki Talks About 'Faces'"). The book features selected photographs from his past works, including magazine serials, such as middle-aged women in Ginza, people sitting across from him on the subway, passersby photographed without a viewfinder, and copies of election posters and host club signs. At the end of the book, Genpei Akasegawa writes "Araki Nobuyoshi Theory." "Photography is one of the ways humans see things, and photographers take and show photographs, so how they present and show the photographs is important. This volume features photographs of faces from the very best to the very worst, lined up without any captions, which is what makes it thrilling." Signed by the photographer .
