"Tokyo / Tokei" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Kazuto Nakazato. Born in Mie Prefecture in 1956, Nakazato graduated from the Department of Geography at Hosei University and studied under one of Japan's leading photographers, Kazuo Kitai. He began working as a freelancer in 1984. He is a photographer who creates landscape works from a topographical perspective through the original landscapes of the Tokyo Bay coast, factories in Ome, markets in Naha, Okinawa, and storehouses in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, and engages in social communication with cities and people through photo installations and workshops. This book is a collection of landscapes photographed in "Mukojima, Tokyo." The reason it is called "Tokei" in English is because "Tokyo," the eastern capital given to the western capital after the Meiji period, had a horizontal bar in the "mouth" of the kanji for "kyo," and was called "Tokei" at the beginning of the Meiji period. However, the word "Tokei" is no longer heard at all these days, and the "original landscape" has disappeared from Tokyo in the same way. However, Nakazato was fascinated by the fact that this same appearance still remained in the downtown area of Mukojima, and he became so engrossed in taking pictures that he started taking pictures.
