``Existence and Time'' is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Hirotaka Kasuga. Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1946, he worked for IBM Japan for over 10 years before turning to photography. After studying photography at ICP in New York, he lived in the United States for many years. He has a reputation for his spiritual and poetic depictions of landscapes set against the backdrop of vast nature. The following is a comment from a solo exhibition with the same title held at the Nikon Salon: ``When you place yourself alone in a desert area and begin a dialogue between yourself and the environment, you feel the presence of a spirit behind it. This work conveys the sense that not only living animals and plants but also inorganic rocks, sand, and soil are breathing as part of the ever-flowing life activities of the universe. This work is about looking deeply into nature. I was pursuing this feeling from the perspective of ``being and time,'' a phrase taken from Heidegger's philosophical work.''
