Makoto Nakamura's Work: Art Direction and Design (Signed) is a collection of works by Makoto Nakamura (1926-2013), a Japanese art director and graphic designer. Since his student days, he has admired Fumio Yamana and Shiseido's PR magazine "Hanatsubaki," and after joining the Shiseido Advertising Department after the war, he has worked with designer Eiko Ishioka as his main partner, and with Yokosuka Koumitsu, one of the leading photographers in postwar Japan, as his main partner. In both cases, he created images shot overseas using Minari Maeda as a model, and since the mid-1970s, using Sayoko Yamaguchi as a model, he has created a number of commercial designs and posters that pursue a unique Japanese aesthetic. In the old days, it expressed traditional beauty like ukiyo-e, and since Yamaguchi, it has expressed modern beauty that can be called the mystery of the East. It is no exaggeration to say that he is one of the people who shaped Japan's and Shiseido's visual identity overseas. This is a valuable book that introduces Nakamura's masterpieces in chronological order, and is also recommended for fans of Yokosuka Kōmitsu and Yamaguchi Sayoko. Signed by the designer .
