"Snowy" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Yoshihiro Hagiwara. Born in 1961 in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture. After graduating from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Photography, worked in the photography department of the Mainichi Shimbun before becoming freelance. In the wake of the Yubari New Coal Mine accident in 1981, we visited coal mines and mine ruins across the country that had been forced to close or rationalize due to changes in energy policy such as importing foreign coal and relying on oil. Yoshihiro Hagiwara said that it has lasted for more than a year. The series of his activities has been frequently exhibited in solo exhibitions since the 1990s, but this is a book compiled of the snow scenes he encountered during his visit to the coal mine. Most photographers agree that snow is difficult to photograph. Snow relentlessly invaded abandoned homes and facilities. Before he knew it, Hagiwara was captivated by the beauty of form interwoven with man-made and natural objects, and began taking unique photographs from various perspectives.
