"Snow Country Folklore" is a joint work by Japanese folklore scholar Kunio Yanagita and film director and producer Shigeru Miki. Yanagida is well known as a scholar of Japanese folklore such as "Tono Monogatari", but Miki is also a cameraman known as a pioneer of Japanese documentary film. This book is a collection of works that record life in the Oga region of Akita Prefecture over a year from 1940 to 1941. It is divided into chapters such as "People living in the soil", "Rural saijiki", "Clothing, food, housing and folk tools", and "Faith, magic, and others". I record every detail of my life, down to the minute. The photo was taken by Miki during breaks in the filming of the local documentary film Living in the Earth.
