"We are Made of Grass, Soil, Trees, and Flowers" is a collection of works by Japanese female photographer Ayaka Yamamoto. Born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture in 1983, she studied painting in college and later worked on performance art and video art, but began photography after studying in San Francisco. Yamamoto became strongly interested in communication through the camera lens in environments where language was not understood, and thereafter began traveling to Europe in search of unknown encounters in unknown lands, attempting to create portraits of women that embodied the memories and time of each place. The series of works from that journey was compiled into her previous work, "We are Made of Grass, Soil, and Trees," but from that work onwards, "Flowers" was added to the title, and this work is composed of new images taken in Hokkaido, Okinawa, and even Malawi in Africa, while continuing her previous activities and style, venturing beyond Europe.
