A collection of works by Japanese photographer Nagahiro Kumagai "Mortar". Born in Omiya City, Saitama Prefecture in 1972. Graduated from Tokyo Visual Arts Department of Photography in 1994. After graduating from the Graduate School of Tokyo College of Photography in 1996, he participated in the establishment of the gallery "Galleria Q" in the same year. Since then, I have held solo exhibitions several times a year at the same space and other galleries. This work, which was published in 2005, can be said to be Nagahiro Kumagai's lifework, and is a compilation of the "Mortar" series, which has held many solo exhibitions. Kita-Otsuka, Arakawa, Shinjuku, Tabata, Hongo, Ikebukuro, Yanaka, Higashi-Nippori, Toranomon, and more. It contains 146 black-and-white works taken over several years. Many of the works shot in the back alleys have the unique inorganic and rugged view of the world that monochrome works have, but at the same time, you can get a glimpse of the lifestyle of the people who live there, and you can feel a strange warmth. .
