Japanese photographer Kanichiro Shimada's photo book "Katsura Imperial Villa / The Katsura Place (Fair Copy)". Born in Tokyo in 1904, he seems to have been active mainly as an amateur, such as being a member of the photography club of the Kokugakai, but the details of his career as a photographer are unknown. On the other hand, he is known for developing "Auto Up" when he joined Mamiya Koki, the founder of the camera manufacturer Mamiya Koki, and was a camera mate. This book is a book created with the motif of "Katsura Imperial Palace", the best of Japanese architecture and garden culture, published in 1959. The photobook of the Katsura Imperial Villa that comes to mind is "Katsura / Katsura" (preface by Kenzo Tange, design by Herbert Bayer) by Yasuhiro Ishimoto, one of Japan's leading photographers. Although different from Ishimoto's Katsura, which is cold-blooded and cut from a design perspective, Shimada's works contain various things in multiple layers, and their composition and formative beauty are striking. The design and layout by graphic designer Hiroshi Hara, who was active before and after the war, is also a wonderful book. Comes with a separate volume (photo table of contents, photo memorandum, plan view of Katsura Imperial Villa, and English text). There is damage to the shipping box.
