"Please Don't Smile" is a collection of works by Frank Horvat (1928-2020), a photographer born in Italy and active in France. In 2018, when he was still alive, Hovatt remembers that Japan's first retrospective exhibition was held at Chanel Nexus Hall in Ginza. To escape Italian fascism, he moved to Switzerland at the age of 11 and then settled in Paris when he was in his twenties, moving from one place to another in the United States, England, India and Pakistan. Originally, Hovatt was active as a photojournalist, but was inspired by the gorgeous and elegant French culture, and has been active as a fashion photographer since the 1960s. At one point, he was also an associate member of Magnum Photos, and his ability is origami. His career is similar to Jeanloup Sieff, one of France's leading fashion photographers of the same era. Along with Avedon, Penn, Newton, and Bourdan, this book summarizes the entire career of Hovatt, who was also the bearer of the rise of postwar fashion photography.
