"Beyond Maps and Atlases (Signed)" is a photo collection by Bertian van Manen, one of the Netherlands' leading female photographers. Born in The Hague in 1942, van Manen grew up in an ordinary family living in a town of immigrant coal miners. At the age of 12, she was sent to a boarding school run by nuns, where she first encountered art. After marrying and having two children, she says that documenting them sparked her interest in photography. She began taking up photography full-time in the 1970s, when she was in her 30s, and worked in fashion photography. However, Robert Frank's "The Americans" changed her life and led her to pursue documentary photography. While van Manen has published numerous photobooks in recent years, this book is comprised of images taken in Ireland in the 2010s. Having lost her husband during this trip, the book evokes a certain nostalgia and a view of life and death. Signed by the photographer .
