``Ah Wilderness'' is a novel and photo book that incorporates illustrations by Daido Moriyama, one of Japan's leading photographers, into a novel by the talented Shuji Terayama, known for his work with the avant-garde theater group ``Tenjo Sajiki.'' Moriyama's memorable 1st photo book, ``Nippon Theater Photo Book'' (1968), which takes snapshots of the public and comedians seen behind the scenes at theaters and playhouses, has text contributed by Terayama, but the text is from the 1960s and 1970s. Both of them have spent a lot of time together. This book is based on Moriyama's only full-length novel, ``Ah Wilderness'', which was serialized in the magazine ``Gendai no Eye'', for which Takuma Nakahira was an editor, from 1965, and was subsequently published as a book or paperback. A re-edited book with photos added. The novel is still fresh in our memory, as it was made into a movie starring actor Masaki Suda in 2017 (Moriyama shot the original images and visuals), and the story is set in Shinjuku in the 1960s, with two young boxers. Human patterns with the various people surrounding them. The inserted photos by Moriyama also capture the atmosphere of the times, showing various scenes of the raunchy streets of Shinjuku.
