This book is a collection of the legendary photo magazine "Shashin Jidai" (Photography Era), which, under the direction of editor Akira Suei, was a collaboration with Nobuyoshi Araki, and featured long serializations by Japan's leading postwar photographers, including Daido Moriyama, Keizo Kitajima, and Seiji Kurata, as well as writers such as Akira Hasegawa, Genpei Akasegawa, Subaru Ueno, and Kei Shimamoto. In an era when art galleries specializing in photography were beginning to appear in Japan, the magazine maintained its position as a "popular magazine" where eroticism and art intersect, not limiting photography to the framework of art, but also incorporating information on gravure, nudes, and (sexual) customs. It was a very significant magazine in the sense that it allowed many people to come into contact with "art photography" in their everyday lives, as well as establishing the individuality of the photographer Nobuyoshi Araki and his recognition among the general public. Due to its radical content, it was discontinued in 1988, but this is a book that was (temporarily) republished eight years later. The collection includes works such as Nobuyoshi Araki's "The Woman," Masato Seto's "Bangkok," Jin Ohashi's "The Day of Unheard Sounds," Kinichi Tanaka's "Sumo Sisters and Butts," Masahiko Taniguchi's "The Youthful Story of a Photographer Boy," and Miwa Tosaki's "Happy Body."
