"Memoires 1983 (Signed)" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Seiichi Furuya. After studying photography at university, he moved to Austria in the early 1970s. After that, he established and edited the photo magazine "Camera Austria" while working in Graz, and held exhibitions of Tomatsu Shomei, Araki Nobuyoshi, Moriyama Daido, and others there. He introduced Japanese photography to Europe. Furuya has been presenting photographs of his wife Christine, who committed suicide in East Berlin in 1985, in photobooks and exhibitions as "Memoires" since 1989, but this book focuses on 1983, and the photographs are arranged in order from January, along with Christine's notes, which were made public for the first time. Color and everyday snapshots of the cities they spent their time in, such as Graz and Vienna. Regarding 1983, which is said to be a turning point for the couple, Furuya writes, "1983 is a year that I always end up returning to on my trips back in time, and it has been a year of constant confusion for me. It was in the spring of that year that her 'abnormal' behavior began to become noticeable, which led to her being hospitalized" (from the publisher's website). Despite knowing the tragic outcome, the idyllic, beautiful scenery and the heartwarming scenes of mother and child playing together will leave you feeling sentimental. Signed by the photographer .
