Japanese photographer Kiichiro Yamagishi's photo book "Steam Locomotive Hymn -White Breathing-". Yamagishi, who started taking railroad photographs from junior high school, held a photo exhibition "Kemuru Takai" in 1971 at the Shinjuku Station Building after working for Fujifilm. This book is a book that has been compiled 40 years after the exhibition, centering on the photographs exhibited in the "Kemuru Takai". It was taken from 1965 to 1967 in the land visited by following the steam locomotives in Fukushima, Nagano, and Akita, mainly in Hokkaido. It is a nostalgic scene that the dull and heavy black car body exhales smoke and weaves through the snowy landscape and mountains, but it is dynamic because of the skill of shooting, as well as the composition and angle of view. The contents are different from the scenic railroad photographs, such as the dynamic expression and the approach to the locomotive other than while driving. In addition, the monochrome high contrast that shines in the snowy landscape enhances the poetic effect and gives some romanticism. It also conveys the spirit of the author, who works as a camera maker and conveys the culture of film photography to posterity. Edited and book designed by Katsuya Kato.
