"Summer Novel (Signed)" is a photobook by Nobuyoshi Araki, a leading Japanese photographer known by his nickname Araki. When this book was published in the late 1990s, a complete collection of 20 books was published by Heibonsha, and a new "Complete Collection of Araki Literature" was also launched. In the midst of this, this book was titled "Novel" due to its literary approach, but the background to this is the intention to "write a novel using only photographs" (from the afterword). This book is a collection of events from the summer of 1997, during which the "Araki Retrographs" exhibition was also held at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. At the end of the book, there is a record of the exhibition and an explanation of the works by curator Yoko Uchida. The monochrome vertical photographs feature personal details such as the familiar veranda, his pet cat Ciro, cityscapes, nudes, and drinking parties, but in Uchida's words, "Araki is not a photographer who relies on his photographic technique. His composition and framing techniques for capturing a moment are genius, and he is simply good at photography. However, his interest lies in the act of capturing a moment alive." The book is full of the charm of Araki's photography. Signed by the photographer .
