"Hip!" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Yoji Ishikawa. Active since the 1960s, Ishikawa has produced photobooks of nudes, pretty girls, and women in general, but he is also known for his fetishistic photobooks that focus on the buttocks, as in this book, or on the backs of women. Published in 1993, this book is from Fuga Shobo, the same publisher that has also handled Yoshikazu Hara's "Strippers Directory" and Nobuyoshi Araki's photobooks. The book features photographs of women's buttocks from various angles, techniques, and scenes, capturing them with a soft focus reminiscent of David Hamilton, and employing ingenuity in shadows and tones, resulting in conceptual nude works that are never monotonous. Speaking of buttocks, Jeanloup Sieff's photobook "derrieres," which was published in the 1960s for fashion magazines such as "Harper's Bazaar" and "Vogue," is well known, but this book presents a different kind of eroticism that is uniquely Japanese.
