"Tales of TONO" is a photo book by Daido Moriyama (1938-), one of Japan's most acclaimed photographers in the world. Tono visited by Moriyama for his first solo exhibition in the mid-1970s. Inspired by Kunio Yanagita's classics, Moriyama released the shutter as if he was possessed in this folktale town, where he portrayed the memories that the Japanese had forgotten and the lost original scenery. After a solo exhibition at the Nikon Salon, this group of photographs was compiled as a photo essay "Tono Monogatari", the first edition was published in 1976, and it was republished in 2007. This book is "Tono Monogatari" published by Tate Publishing in London in 2012, and has been re-edited as a Tate version. Moriyama's fantasy hometown, Tono, such as idyllic nature, rural scenery, and weathered scenery of local cities, is engraved in deep monochrome contrast. In 2012, the "William Klein + Daido Moriyama" exhibition with William Klein was also held at Tate Modern.
