The Swamp is a collection of works by Brazilian artist Sophia Borges (1984-). Borjes studied visual arts at the University of Sao Paulo and was searching for his own expression while photographing exhibits at the museum. He has received numerous awards in Brazil as a budding artist, but in 2016 he received the First Book Award, a photobook publishing support award from UK publisher MACK. Borges, influenced by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Thomas Demand, had been visiting various museums, zoos, and aquariums for seven years to shoot. There are many things shown here, from bones and birds that can be understood from their morphology, to what they themselves are, but from their raw, grotesque expressions, their textures and shapes (That is, the image she wants) is transmitted.
