A collection of works by Japanese artist Mitsuru Katsumoto, "Study in Green." Katsumoto is a sculptor who creates a variety of objects and assemblages from everyday objects, printed matter, fabrics, furs, old photographs, and other familiar materials. In addition to presenting his work in solo and group exhibitions, he also designs many book covers for poetry and novels. This book includes his Green Series, which he has been working on since 2002, and describes how "green-dyed animal fur and thread are combined with various materials, such as nameless objects, modest tools, and everyday items that have aged over time. The world of his work unfolds through the color green, and is delightfully mysterious while retaining a unique harmony" (publisher's statement). In his box works, which are reminiscent of Joseph Cornell's, the green fur and color create a foreign (alien) presence while still creating a unique worldview, while still giving off a story-like quality reminiscent of a picture book.
