A photo book "Okinawa Kankara Sanshin" by Japanese photographer Hirara Takanichi (1939-1994). Together with Yasuo Higa and Kenshichi Heshiki, Takanichi Hirara has had a great influence as a pioneer in the photography world of Okinawa. After working at the Ryukyu Shimpo Photography Department and the Ryukyu Broadcasting Television Press Department, as you can see from his career as the Public Relations Division of the Ryukyu Government (currently Okinawa Prefectural Government) in 1970, the scars of the war remain strong, and the postwar Okinawa shaken by the return to the mainland and the base problem. Taira, who has been looking from a journalistic point of view, published "Okinawa" in 1970 and "Painukaji" in 1976 at his own expense. "Painukaji" was highly evaluated as a documentary filming the Miyako and Yaeyama Islands for five years, and received the Kimura Ihei Award for Photography in 1977. This book is a record of Okinawa for 20 years after the return to the mainland from 1961 to 1981, and although it is a casual everyday life, the memories of the war are woven everywhere. In the second half, portraits of Okinawa's political and cultural meritors and memoirs during and after the war by citizens are also posted. Hirara's photographs are always full of ruminant power, just as Okinawa's hardships are overlaid on the appearance of an old woman with deep wrinkles.
