"Forms of Japan (Signed)" is a photobook by British photographer Michael Kenna, immensely popular in Japan for his tranquil, poetic works and exceptional printing techniques. Born in Lancaster, England, Kenna studied photography and printing techniques in London before moving to the United States. He moved to San Francisco and worked for nearly 10 years under Ruth Bernhardt, a female photographer renowned for her nude work, where he furthered his photography and printing techniques. Kenna's subsequent success is well-known, with over 100 exhibitions held in Japan alone, and he enjoys a steady stream of Japanese fans and collectors. This book is a culmination of Kenna's work on "Japan," translated into Japanese as "Images of Japan." This 300-page work brings together works from his hugely popular "Hokkaido" series and other works, organized into chapters: "First," "Sea," "Land," "Trees," "Spirit," "Sky," "Land," and "Last." Drawing on texts by Matsuo Basho and Kobayashi Issa, Kenna presents his poetic interpretation of "Japan."
