The exhibition "Nobuyoshi Araki: Sentimental Journey 1971-2017" at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum is still fresh in our memory. Nobuyoshi Araki (1940-) is one of Japan's leading photographers who continues to enjoy tremendous support worldwide. This book, "My Diary," is a self-published book from "AaT Room," which he founded in 1988 with Shiro Tamiya and Nobuhiko Anzai. As the opening words "For Robert Frank" indicate, the book was published in 1994, the year Robert Frank came to Japan to judge the "New Century of Photography," and Araki also served as a judge. Although the cover has the date "'93 12 31," this book begins with a photo from July 27, 1992, and ends with a photo from December 25, 1993, and is a compilation of Araki's monochrome snapshots over a period of about a year and a half (some shots include Araki in them). The snapshots, arranged in chronological order, include nudes, still lifes, landscapes, and his beloved cat Ciro, and are literally a "diary," making this a book that allows you to relive Araki's ever-changing perspective. (Some pages are torn and missing.)
