A photo book by Japanese photographer Koichi Ishida. Born in Beijing in 1943, Koichi Ishida studied under Shigekazu Nagano after graduating from the current Tokyo Polytechnic University, and has been active as a freelancer since the age of 22. Ishida has created works mainly in remote mountain villages in Japan, China, and Southeast Asia, and his unique style, which is not only beautiful on the surface but also expressive in conveying the background and story contained in the illustrations, has led to numerous exhibitions and photo books. This book was published in 1971 as his first photo book, and was Ishida Koichi's breakthrough work. Intuitively attracted to India, he visited the country for the first time in the spring of 1967, and despite the intense heat and smell, he said he had a strong sense of being "alive." This was because he was struck by the hearts of the lower classes who were struggling with hunger and poverty but were trying desperately and positively to live. The profound photogravure printing and outstanding layout are wonderful, and the book is published by Photo Criticism, the publisher of such renowned masterpieces as "Goodbye Photography" and "I am a King."
