"Cupid note" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Nobuyuki Sugiyama. Sugiyama, who began working as a freelancer while still a student at Nihon University College of Art and has worked on a wide range of photography, mainly in advertising, fashion, and portraiture, has captured young lovers in monochrome against the backdrop of Australian cities and beaches. The theme is "pastel-colored love," which is not a love accompanied by seriousness or pain, but rather one that combines boundless brightness with a sudden feeling of sentimentality, and it lightly captures the natural moments of men and women playing, cuddling, and gazing at each other. The intimate distance that does not feel staged and the open scenery blend together in the photographs, and one can even sense the presence of an invisible Cupid. In 1994, a photo exhibition of the same name as this book was held at Shibuya PARCO, and it is an early representative work that became the starting point for Sugiyama's expression of love and people, which led to later works such as "BOY+1" and "LOVERS".
