"Tight Angles" is a photobook by German photographer Frank Rheinboldt (1946). Rheinboldt had an unusual background, having studied technical drafting, then theater in Berlin, and even worked as a trapeze artist. He later shifted his focus to photography and painting, pursuing his own unique sense of form. This book is an English version of the same collection of works as "Die Quadratur des Weibes," published in 1983, and was released in the United States in 1986. Using the female body as his subject, he transforms the lines of the body into geometric and graphical images through strong light and shadow, perspective created by wide-angle lenses, and bold combinations with backgrounds. Rather than simply documenting the human body, he abstracts the body through angles and composition, sometimes presenting it as a form reminiscent of architecture or sculpture. This collection represents Rheinboldt's early work and explores the relationship between photography and design, and between body and space, with a unique sensibility.
