"Time in Air, Time in Paper" is a collection of works by Japanese artist Sachiko Morita (1973-). After studying sculpture at Musashino Art University, Morita moved to France and is currently based in Angers. This book contains 51 works created over more than 20 years, bringing together her unique expression in one volume. Morita uses a distinctive method of applying photosensitive material with a brush to Italian watercolor paper, photographing the images with 35mm film, printing them in an antique enlarger, and then refining the image with water and paintbrushes. Everyday motifs such as plants, fruits, fish, bread, and everyday objects are transformed into serene images that, while photographic, evoke pencil drawings or old botanical illustrations. The charm of Morita's work lies in the coexistence of the sensibilities of both photography, which fixes a single moment, and painting and sculpture, which involve the accumulation of time through the movement of the hands. This is a beautiful book that carefully explores the materiality and time of the photographic medium.
