This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition "Kim's Bedroom," held at MU in Eindhoven, Netherlands in 2000, with American musician/artist Kim Gordon serving as guest curator. As the title "Bedroom" suggests, the exhibition was conceived to invite viewers into Kim's own private world, with her relationships at the center of the curation. A diverse group of artists spanning contemporary art, photography, film, fashion, and music participated, including Rita Ackerman, Sofia Coppola, Susan Cianciolo, Mark Gonzales, Mike Kelley, Spike Jonze, Richard Kahn, Cameron Jamie, Raymond Pettibon, Cat Power, Thurston Moore, and Jim O'Rourke. More than just an exhibition catalog, it is a blend of photographs, drawings, and texts, designed by Ellen Fleiss and Christoph Blankel, who supported the early days of Purple. It also comes with an original CD containing music by participating artists and related musicians. This project, which later toured to Tokyo's Shibuya PARCO Gallery, is a representative early work of Purple Books, capturing the atmosphere of the early 2000s when art, music, fashion, and independent culture intersected across genres, all through Kim Gordon's extremely personal perspective of her "bedroom."
