"Camera: Eye × Steel: Composition" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Masao Horino (1907-1998). After graduating from the Department of Applied Chemistry at Tokyo Higher Technical School in 1927, he worked as a stage photographer while joining groups such as the "International Photographic Society" and the "New Photographic Research Association," creating ambitious experimental photographs. Known as a leading figure of "New Photography" in the early Showa era, he also pursued the possibilities of photography as a printed material, publishing "Graph Montage," which can be considered a precursor to photojournalism, and is regarded as a pioneer of Japanese photojournalism. This book, published in 1932, is one of the finest masterpieces that has left its mark on the history of Japanese photography, and is part of the "Treasures of Japanese Photographic History" series, which reprints rare and valuable photobooks produced before the war, supervised by Kotaro Iizawa and Ryuichi Kaneko. The collection of works features "mechanical structures" as a motif, reminiscent of predecessors such as Alberto Lenger Pacche and Germaine Crull. From the bleed layout to the beautiful graphic design and binding, this masterpiece encapsulates the meticulous attention to detail expected of a "photobook" as a work of art. Limited edition of 480 copies. Edition numbered. (Slight wear on cover and text page corners, illustrations in good condition)
