This is the landmark first issue of *Purple Prose*, an independent magazine founded in Paris in 1992 by French editors Ellen Fleiss and Olivier Zahm. *Purple*, now known as a global fashion and culture magazine, wasn't always in its current form. Starting with *Purple Prose*, it expanded into *Purple Fiction*, *Purple Sexe*, and *Purple Fashion*, developing its own unique editorial culture along the way.
